TM Publishing

So in addition to my current employment at the Church as a proofreader, I've also been working for my friend Brett's startup publishing company, TM Publishing. I'm currently frontlining as one of his acquisitions editors, recruiters, copyeditors, and magazine development and content editors. Yep. All of those.

Mostly the magazine editor, though.

It's exciting, fulfilling work, though a little bit stressful as I try to figure out how to balance my paid job, my non-paid job, and my non-work-related-at-all life. But I love it.

So TM Publishing.

We're a small time publisher that offers the benefits of a larger publishing house (editing, production, cover design, audio recording, publicity and marketing, etc.) with the accessibility of a self-publisher. Okay, so it's a little more complicated than that, but that's the gist of it. With 50% royalties going straight to the author, we're definitely more appealing to a writer who would like to make a profit off their book.

TM Publishing will mostly focus on eBook publishing, and is being included in large catalogs such as Kindle, Barnes & Noble, etc., where print versions can be ordered if desired. We have five genre-specific imprints for sci-fi/fantasy/speculative fiction, mystery/crime, children's lit, literary fiction, and non-fiction, respectively.

Yeah, I know that all sounds very advertisement-y. That's because this post is basically a shameless plug for the company.

Honestly? If you'd asked me two years ago what I wanted to be doing career-wise for the rest of my life, my answer would have been something about working for the Church, or getting involved at the ground level in a small publishing company and being involved in helping to build it and then run it. First dream: already happened. I'm working for the Church and it has been one of the most blessed experiences of my life. And then, impossibly, a few months ago, Brett called me up and said, "Hey, I'm starting a publishing company. Do you want in?"

I thought I was dreaming. I really did. No way does life work out that neatly. (Amendment: It can if God's in control, luckily for us.) But it was 100% real, and now, five-ish months later, I'm in the thick of things, helping get this company off the ground.

But I need your help. I've got a small readership, I know, but every little bit helps. Part of my responsibilities is to help generate reader interest, which makes us more appealing to the advertisers and booksellers that we so desperately need.

And there's something in it for you.

Got your interest?

Good. Okay, so, if you love me, please go sign up for our e-magazine. If you do, you will get not only my undying love and devotion, but also a chance to win a Kindle Fire (and, of course, an awesome magazine... once I can get it published). The year subscription is free until April 21st, after which it will go up to $24.99 for a year's worth of magazines. PLUS! If you refer others, you will get an extra month of free magazine for every person who puts you as a referral.

To sign up, go to tmpublishing.com. In the top right corner, under The Blot Event, you'll see a drop-down menu with Kindle Giveaway! Click on that and sign up. Don't put my name as a referral or anything, because I'm a member of the company. I don't need free issues of the magazine.

And don't forget, if you sign up, you get my undying love and devotion. Forever. Seriously. I will love you forever. And be godmother to your children.

Oh, and tell all your friends. :)
